Week 2: Movie

This week, I'm doing Holding Out For A Hero. The song is originally from the Footloose Soundtrack by Bonnie Tyler, but tonight I'm doing the Jennifer Saunders version from Shrek 2. Though Jennifer's voice doesn't really sound much like mine, if you try to replace her vocals with mine, it really fits my voice. It was a very fun song to do. In the words of the great Tina, it's starts off nice and easy, but then it's nice and rough. I hope you all enjoy.

Oh Mandisa... I really didn't like everything you did. Everything was wrong. You should've picked another better song that will suit your voice. Sorry.

Paula have you gone nutz? I'm sorry Mandisa, but it was that I don't think you have reached the stage of the vocals that are needed. I think your vocals are great, but I don't see them reaching that kind of level in the song...its an alright job.

so, I disagree with Jason in that everything was wrong because everything was ok with the exception on vocals...and with Paula on thinking you did an amazing job, it was average/alright job.

I'm having problems overlaying Mandisa's voice on this song, and I'm not really sure what to think. It wasn't a safe song by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't think it paid off in the way that you hoped it would have either.

God .. it's so hard this week.

I think maybe the Bonnie Tyler version might have suited you a little better. That might have worked ... it just seems like it had more soul to it and not in a soul music kind of way. This version you picked just seemed so manufactured that it was soulless.

But like I told Kelly, I have to go with what we were presented.

So I don't know. It was okay-ish?

If I was your singing prefessor and I had to grade you I would give you a C.
C = Just Average, like your performance. Not to good but not to bad. Kind of in the middle.
